Ausbildung (also called “vocational training”) is a formal educational qualification opened for international students.
An apprenticeship in Germany is usually done within a dual system. An apprenticeship usually takes up to 3 years. This means that you learn a job both within a school environment as well as with your employer within the company. The goal for any employer is to employ the trainees after the apprenticeship to have workers with a good knowledge on the job.
The salary during the first year of the apprenticeship is around 1000 Euro per month. The apprenticeship will be part in school and part working within the organization. In the 2nd and 3rd year, the salary will rise to around 1400 Euro per month.
After the apprenticeship the starting salary for a professional start at around 2600 – 2800 Euro per month (before tax). A professional with work experience can make up to 3500 Euro a month as a carer for the elderly.
You need to achieve at least a B1 German fluency. If you already have a B1 or B2 level in German, you only have to prove this by taking the Goethe/Telc B1/B2 exam.
On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you can sign a normal work contract under German law which allows you to work in Germany for the duration of your employment with the option to apply for citizenship after having been a resident in Germany for a minimum of 5 years. You can also further your studies by attending any of the universities in Germany to obtain a bachelor's or master's degree with the support of the German companies, or you return to your country and works as an expatriate.
